The Classic City Band consists of volunteer members from 90+ years of age all the way down to high school students. Members share the love of playing music with each other for live audiences. The band welcomes all new players 14 years of age and older. There are no auditions, challenges, or dues. The band performs in the Athens, GA area and outside of the city (but no further than 45 miles away) in nearby counties between 6 and 9 times per year. Travel is at the expense of the individual players, although it is fully tax-deductible. Small ensembles have included a clarinet choir, a brass choir, a German Polka Band, the Classic City Dixiedawgs, and the Classic City Swing. Contact Herb Meyer (706-380-3878) or Tom Cooper (706-546-8426) with any questions, or just come to a rehearsal!
Our rehearsals are every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the band room of Cedar Shoals High School, except for a summer break between Independence Day and Labor Day. To find the band room, from the Gaines School Road direction, take the first entrance into Cedar Shoals High School and park in the parking lot immediately to your left. The band room is on the right as you are facing the school; follow the folks with instrument cases!
